Hey, friends,
What are y'all doing?
Doyle and I have almost decided to get a puppy. In fact, we almost brought home a Great Dane puppy we saw yesterday, but we decided to think about it a little more before committing to a dog the size of a pony.
Have any of y'all ever had a Great Dane?
What's your favorite kind of dog?

You know, we've owned Miniature Schnauzers for over 5 years. We have a momma dog (Oby) and her son (Dane) in our house now, and they are incredible dogs - smart, personable, loving, and schnauzers do NOT shed, which is a major plus. We also have a yard dog - a mixed breed that someone found out on the highway as a puppy, and we adopted. She is a super dog, kind of a Lab/Border Collie mix.
I've always preferred big dogs to little ones. My aunt Louise once had a Great Dane and he was the most lovable giant you ever saw. He used to "check up" on my grandmother all the time by going to the window where she always sat, watching the highway, to see if she was ok. Louise used to hvae this little pickup truck that she drove all over the place and it was not unusual to see her driving through town with this great big dog standing on the back with his front feet on the wheel wells of the bed of the truck. One time I came around the corner of the Sears store, there by the 1st Baptist Church, and saw Louise go sailing around the corner way up by Texaco with Duke on the back of the truck and a whole bunch of smaller dogs chasing them. I thought to myself, "There goes the Pied Piper of Macon, ridding the town of its dogs." I think you'd like a Great Dane. My cousin Wes also used to have a Great Dane. He, too, was so gentle, but the cats sure were afraid of him, as well as anyone who was a smidgen afraid of dogs in general.
Don't have a favorite dog. I appreciate ones on leashes, though. Funny thing... we have new neighbors that moved in across and down the street a bit. They have some kind of German shorthairish hound that's outside all day unleashed. Usually that would peeve me for my daughter's sake -- nothing like having an animal head-high rush you -- except for the strangest thing. This dog sits all day, untethered, hardly moving. So weird. Went off to church the other day, saw it when we passed, upright, looking longingly at the house (I imagined); on the way back hours later, it was in the same spot. Alison says it's just depressed.
I like dogs. I just don't have any extra cash to spend feeding, housing and doctoring one.
It depends on what kind of dog you want. I have 5 so I must need to have my head examined. 1 is a pure bread beagle who just showed up. 2 are a beagle jack Russell mixed, 1 Samyoed, and chow shepard mis, he showed up too. My Samyoed I got at an auction for $25.00 no papers but he couldn't be used for breeding he has an overbite. He his a very slow eater. But that's OK. He is very protective. The beagle well she is just a beagle a real lovey dovey thing. The Jack and beagle mix super active. The Chow/shepard a real good watch dog. And very loving. We won't be getting any new dogs anytime soon. Shadow the shep/chow is getting really old. The others are somewhat younger. Good luck finding a dog. Check the pound, or go on line and look for rescued Great Danes. Dawn
