  • Hey, y'all.

    Hagrid and Celia

My name is Hagrid. I'm baby Great Dane. I am 10 weeks old, and I weigh about 25 pounds right now. I love to snuggle. I cried and cried last night because I was lonesome for my nine brothers and my sister and my mama and daddy. I cried in my crate in the living room. I cried when my new mommy and daddy moved my crate right next to their bed. I cried until the lady couldn't stand it anymore and let me out for just a minute. Then I stood up on my hind legs and put my BIG feet up on the bed and looked up at my new mommy and daddy, real sad, with my pretty dark brown eyes.
So, for the first time in my new mommy's life, she let an animal sleep in the bed with her. I snuggled right down in the middle of them, and we all slept pretty good. I like to sleep in that soft bed.
The only thing is, that king-sized bed was a little crowded last night. What are we gonna do when I get all growed up?

  • Good name! I remember when I got my Katie...she slept in a crate, too, and I ended up the first few nights sleeping on the floor next to the crate, my hand squeezed through the bars so I could have my hand on her, and then slowly night by night moved my hand out, then slept next to it, then further and then on the end of the bed, then normally on my bed... that was 10 years ago. She is an outside dog now because of her shedding... but she loves her yard and "protects" it from any "critters" that might come in. She doesn't even let birds land! Enjoy Hagrid, I'm so happy for you to enjoy being a "parent" again! Love, Gerrie

  • OH yes, one more thing, be careful about "weaning" him to not be in your lap as he gets older, because you do NOT want a great dane thinking he's a lap dog! We had a German shepherd who thought he was one...terrible, especially for our young children at the time. Enjoy:)

  • Oh, my! Oh, my, my, my! I'm too late! I was in the kitchen cleaning up and thinking about your mention of getting a Great Dane. I thought of something to say to you, but it's too late! My friend Karen told me last week that the best advice her father ever gave her was this: if ever you think you want/need something, wait two weeks before you buy it. Then wait two more weeks. If you still want/need it, get it. I was going to say that....but it appears that you really needed this little/big dog. He is beautiful and will be wonderful company for you. But you'd better start stocking up on dog food, because he's going to eat a lot!

  • That is a classic name for a Great Dane, and what a pretty puppy! When Cyndy and I went to Mobile for the Donovan concert, we met this neat guy downtown who was walking this really humongous white Great Dane. I think you're in for a very interesting relationship.

  • You're in big trouble now! You are gonna love that precious thing and he is gonna love you. Exciting times in your household. What about Badness Kitty? Cyn

  • What an adorable puppy!  My mother raised Great Danes, they're wonderful pets!  My very own DH would like one...I'm going to be watching how your experience goes with Hagrid!  Who knows, maybe we will end up with a Dane!

  • Sleeping with you ok but what happens when he weighs 100 lbs or more??? The fun begins!!!!  hugs.  Dawn
