Happy Mother's Day,
all of you mother-friends!
What have you been doing today?I went to Mass this morning, and on the way had a sweet phone call from my Colorado boy wishing me Happy Mother's Day.
D and I picked up his mom and took her out to her favorite little small-town cafe up in Lead Hill for lunch, then for a long ride in the country. It's a beautiful, sunny, but WINDY day here in the Ozarks. Then we took Ruby home and came home and had a piece of cake with my first successful HOMEMADE caramel icing (recipe from my friend Ozarksfarmgirl - yum!) and I took a decadently long Sunday afternoon nap.
The bad news is, if I don't do some ironing soon, I won't have anything to wear to work this week.... :{
I sure do miss my Little Mama today. If you're blessed to still have your mom on this side of the River, be sure to love on her a lot today.
God bless you all with a happy day and a joy-filled week, my friends.

Thanks for the picture of the white rose. I thought about that tradition today, about how when we were young, my mom would pin a small red rose (from a rose bush in our yard, of course)on my shirt or jacket lapel on Mother's Day, because my mom was living. And you knew that the people wearing white roses to church on Mother's Day had lost their moms. It occurred to me today that now, I'd be in the white rose group. It was a very sweet tradition.
A lovely picture! Our Mothering Sunday was in March - I used to make a Simnel Cake. *Lots* of marzipan! Glad you had a nice day for yours. [Now - why are they different days, I wonder?]

LIke Avarel, Mother's Day conjures up memories of roses of different colors. It was a strong tradition in our family, too, to wear the appropriate color, red for a living mother and white for one who had passed on. I still remember Mom buying the corsages for her mother, her grandmother, Dad's grandmother and herself, and the smell when you opened the refrigerator door.... that sweet, flower-shop smell. I even got to wear a flower, and mine was pink because I wasn't a mother yet. Later, when I was old enough, I'd buy Mom's corsage. And even though we don't do corsages anymore, I think about them every year. Maybe next year, I'll revive the tradition. Glad that you had a good day and a good nap and a good cake....now, just have a good week!
I was thinking about you yesterday and how you'd be missing your mama. I hope the wonderful memories that you have of her outweigh the sadness of missing her.
It was a moving mother ' s Day for you Celia .
But you had a good moment to care D ' s mom .and enjoy the peace of the day .
You know a nap is a necessity .
Love
