  •    Doyle and I had the most wonderful get-away day yesterday. We piled into the Prius and headed west, over to the Norfork River, to Rose's Trout Dock, where D was once a weekend fishing guide years ago when he was in his 20s.
Our plans weren't to fish, but just to show me the Norfork and White Rivers from the water - the best trout fishing water in the country, many people believe.
We rented a trout boat for half a day and headed out into the sunshine. As you look at the pictures, keep in mind that the water in the river is only about 52 degrees, because it comes through the dam from the cool depths of Bull Shoals Lake. Even though it was about 90 outside yesterday, on the river it was delightful, with a cool breeze, and at times a breath of truly chilly air when you'd go through a shady spot.

Doyle sat in the stern and steered, and I propped my feet up in the bow and just enjoyed sitting quietly, enjoying God's beautiful Creation....Here's a little taste of the experience for you to share:

We saw blue herons, a kingfisher, hawks, and even (maybe) a bald eagle! And I kept a sharp watch for the first signs of fall, spotting red leaves here and there, especially on the Virginia creeper. Early fall wildflowers were everywhere...

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. Doyle spotted these sunbeams spearing out from behind a cloud....don't they remind you of the way God's love is always shining on us, even when we can't see Him?

  • That does look like a delightful day.  I that last photo is fabulous.

  • (Regarding the last sentence!) I was going to say that I love the last photo - then changed my mind.  :)   Remove the first word so it makes sense.

  • Very nice. The peacefulness fairly oozed out of the pictures. But oh, not to be fishing!

  • My husband and son-in-law have made two fishing expeditions with guide on the White River.  I can attest that the brown trout from there is excellent.

  • In-laws took us to the Showboat Branson Belle yesterday and it was a beauitful day to be on the lake. it was beauitful.  The show and the food were wonderful.  I would like to go again in a few weeks when the leaves are changing..  Worth the time. WE do live in a beauitful part of the United States......Dawn

  • Love the pics. Quite peaceful. My favorite is obviously the sun rays through the clouds but I must say I really like the one with the flowers dipping down into the water as if to get a cool drink.

  • What a nice day you had! It's good to see you looking so happy and relaxed....just what a day like that is for. And you were in such good hands! What better place is there than on the river on a 90-degree summer day? Your timing was perfect. The sunbeam picture is truly wonderful....as Jack Buck used to say, "That's a winner!"

  • That last picture of the sun through the clouds is beautiful!  I haven't been on the Norfork, but I've been on the Noelk, and the Buffalo.  I love being on the river, but I haven't gone canoeing in a few years now.  I hope we get to take a trip in the next couple of years!  There's a nice canoe resort we like to go to called River Ranch Resort, it's oft the Noel river.  Anyway, thanks for sharing the pics, makes me wish I was there!

  • Beautiful pictures! I particularly loved the last picture and the butterfly. Exquisite!
