  • Happy Thanksgiving, friends!
I'm grateful for each one of you.
I'm going over to paint at our new(old!) house for a little while, then back to make Scalloped Pineapple to take to our friends' home for Thanksgiving dinner on their farm this afternoon. Doyle's mom Ruby is making her signature cornbread dressing with apples.
Where will you be having Thanksgiving dinner today, and who will be around your table?

  • We spent the day with Wil's extended family at a sister's home. My dau and 2 of her kids showed up. Sure didn't expect that...nice surprise. DILove was there too.

  • This was a very special Thanksgiving in our family:  Oldest daughter and family are here from MA all week.  It's the first holiday all three kids have been together in 12 years, and this year there's our darling new daughter-in-law and a new grandchild to join the first.  I kept watching them all doing ordinary things around our house, and my eyes kept filling with tears of thanksgiving.

The turkey was still solidly frozen yesterday morning, despite being in the fridge for five days, so I consulted the Net and learned that it's preferable to cook it from frozen anyway.  I was skeptical, but had no choice, so our 22-lb.  bird spent 7 hours in a 325-degree oven.  Result:  It was so juicy and flavorful, I'll never cook a turkey any other way.  Best I've ever tasted.

Celia, I want pictures of your new rooms and the painting project!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.  We ALL have much to be thankful for.

  • We cooked for the people at church who had no one to share with.  We didn't have very many people but it was still a good time.  But it also our first time doing this.  Next year sloppy joes.  Hubby cooked two turkeys,  we were told one family was going to bring 9 people with them   they didn't show up.  Life goes on.  And it was still a good time.    Dawn
